More Information
Oldenburg is the third biggest city in Lower Saxony approximately 40 km north-west of Bremen. It is the economic, scientific and cultural centre of the Weser-Ems region which has a population of roughly 2.4 million. The growing University town is part of the 2005 founded “Metropolitan Region Bremen/Oldenburg”. Its catchment area stretches from the Netherlands (120 km) in the west, to Bremen (45 km; 544,000 inhabitants) in the east and from the North Sea’s coast to Osnabrück (120 km; 154,000 inhabitants) in the South.
Oldenburg has approximately 14,000 students studying at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (c.12,000) and the Jade University of applied science (c.2,000 students). There are 11 purpose built halls in Oldenburg, totalling 1,600 beds, 9 of which are owned and operated by the Studentenwerk (the national subsidised accommodation provider). Accordingly (88.6%) Higher Education students are unable to access purpose built accommodation. Please note that in Germany the universities do not provide accommodation. The property is centrally located within a housing district.
The Carl-von-Ossietzky University is accessible by foot as it is 900 m away. The majority of German students in this region prefer to cycle. The building offers students a convenient living arrangement with good access to public transportation. There is a bus stop right in front of the building linking the property to the universities and the city centre. There are several shopping options located nearby.
The property comprises a main building of 11 storeys and a basement along with a linked annexe of three stories.
The property was purpose-built for student use in the 1970s and has been successfully operated ever since. To the exterior there is surface parking for 50 cars as well as bicycle storage.
The property will undergo a rolling programme of substantial refurbishment.
